RYDGES HOTEL
Rydges Hotel, previously known as the Four Points Sheraton, is in the heart of Port Macquarie's CBD fronting the Town Green and the Hastings River and is dominant within the landscape when viewed from the Town Green and not highly articulated.
The hotel adjoins a locally listed heritage item – the Royal Hotel, is in the vicinity of the State listed former courthouse and another locally listed heritage item – the former police residence and lock-up.
The client’s proposal, prepared by Hamilton Hayes Henderson Architects, was for alterations and additions to part of the café, restaurant, retail tenancy and nightclub/function room on the ground floor and the function rooms on the first floor.
The main issue was the visual setting of the adjoining Royal Hotel when viewed from the Town Green and how the architect could best articulate the façade to assist in reducing the bluntness of the façade at the interface with the Royal Hotel and Town Green.
